Isaiah 53

Who has believed what we have heard?
Whom has seen His powerful hand?
In Your presence Your servant matured
Like a tender root born from dry sand

He was despised and rejected
Man of sorrows acquainted with grief
We thought He deserved to be corrected
The scorn of all our unbelief

He was pierced for our transgressions
He was crushed for all our sins
We thought this was retribution
The cost of proper discipline

All we like sheep have gone astray
We left God’s path to follow our own
So unto Him all our sins did lay
All of our wrongs He would atone

He was oppressed and afflicted
Yet never saying a word
Like a sheep about to be slaughtered
The punishment He would endure

Led astray unjustly condemned
He died without descendants
No one could ever claim deception
Yet He was treated like a nuisance

To overwhelm Him was God’s will
He was prepared as an offering
The LORD’s good plan He would fulfill
Risen to see His offspring

All He obtained by His anguish
He shall see and be satisfied
From Him have we been made righteous
So unto Him can we abide

With His very final breath
The wages of sin He did defy
Exposing himself unto death
Receiving honor and praise most high
