Lineage of Deception

Just like Sarah, Rebekah was also barren

But after Isaac pleaded, God had compassion 

She became pregnant and gave birth to twins 

So between them a new rivalry begins 

Esau became a very skilled hunter 

While Jacob stayed home in awe and wonder

For 15 years he must’ve learned from Abraham 

Learning all about God, the great I AM

Esau showed contempt for his heritage 

Not caring about blessings from his parentage 

Selling his birthright for a bowl of red stew

Not knowing what he would suffer through 

Then Isaac deceived a king like his father 

Saying that Rebekah was just his sister 

But the king found out then made an alliance 

They would not interfere and stay in compliance

Later on Jacob received Esau’s blessing

Confirming the land he would be possessing 

Tricking his father after feeding him meat

Continuing the ways of practicing deceit 

Using the excuse of not marrying a foreigner 

Jacob then went to his mom’s brother

For twenty years did Jacob work for his uncle 

But Laban was crafty and also deceitful 

Forcing Jacob to marry the oldest daughter 

Trying to keep Jacob within his borders 

But God blessed Jacob with plenty 

Making him rich and quite wealthy 

Going back to his father Jacob couldn’t postpone  

And God warned Laban to leave Jacob alone 

So between the two of them they made a treaty

Jacob then lowered himself in modesty

Jacob recognized himself as a servant 

Wanting to reconcile with Esau so fervent 

All night he wrestled with God and resisted 

To receive a blessing had he insisted 

Meeting God at a place named Peniel

Jacob’s name also changed to Israel

Later making peace with his brother 

Love between them was recovered 

Unfortunately Israel’s sons raided Shechem

Continuing the line of deception 

Seeking revenge for their sister

They let their hearts become bitter 

We’ve always had our morals twisted 

Since Adam and Eve has sin persisted 

Cheating and lying between each other 

When we are called to love our neighbors
