Balak & Balaam

Inspired by Numbers chapter 22 & Matthew Henry's commentary

After Israel defeated the Ammorites
They went on to face the Moabites
King Balak feared he would be devoured
So he sought another to be empowered

But Balak paid with unrighteousness
Calling upon Balaam's services
If you seek things out that are wicked
Then it shows your heart is insipid

Balaam may have had a great reputation
Even with God be in communication
But even if you can hear from God
You can still be nothing but a fraud

For we can be baited with pride and ambition
Be seduced with power like a corrupt politician
So do not judge others by their own words
For God really knows what their hearts serve

May decline the requests of those He supports 
Yet grant the desires to those He aborts
Giving them up to the lust in their hearts
From His everlasting love do they depart 

He may not restrain us from immorality 
But neither spare us from its calamity 
Miraculously show us His displeasure 
And let us know what we should treasure 

God will bless those whom He chooses 
And curse those whom He refuses 
So let us not give in to any temptation 
But rest in His Grace and divine salvation

Inspired by Matthew Henry’s commentary on Numbers chapter 1-4 From the people  number the amount of warriors For it is the end of His moratorium For too long  has the world ignored its Superior And decided to stay in their delirium   Who amongst us will distinguish themselves Against temporal things will they rebel  Excelling at maintaining sacred belongings  Propelling forward God’s outpouring  We are called to spiritual battle  So encamp around the tabernacle  Content to stay in our allotted place As we rest in His glorious grace  Remember when He spared the firstborn  So service unto Him must we perform  Because to those whom God finds work for He will provide help and He will bolster  All men and women are the Lord’s by creation  And we are His children by His redemption  Everyone should know their own post and duty  As we are made to follow Him faithfully

Anointing Before Death

Inspired by John 12:1-11 Before the celebration is the appointing  The filling of a basin for the anointing  A pleasing aroma for those around  Unlike Jonah when he almost drowned  We can try and run from God’s commands Turn away and flee from what He planned  Because we don’t agree with His compassion  Having cold hearts and a negative reaction  So like Jonah, Judas also had contempt  The welfare of others he would exempt  Despite witnessing God’s grace and mercy There were people he deemed unworthy  We will always have the poor among us  Doesn’t excuse our mood and smugness  How we spend our time is important  Don’t be deceived by the wicked serpent  So pour the perfume and prepare the body The time is coming when it’ll be buried  Crushed by the weight of disobedience  It is for us that he intermediates  And like Lazarus we can be raised  From the curse of death can we be saved  Free from ph...
