The Last Supper

Inspired by Matthew 26:1-30; Mark 14:1-26; Luke 22:1-30

Two days before Passover
at the Festival of Unleavened Bread
Religious leaders were worried
that the people may riot in dread

Jesus was a guest of Simon
     Who was a former leper
Jesus' head was poured over
     From a jar of alabaster
Some said the jar could've been sold
And the money given to the poor
Jesus said, "This woman has come to prepare
My body for what is in store"

Judas went to the religious leaders
and said Jesus' head he'll deliver
The leaders agreed to the betrayal
and paid thirty pieces of silver

The day came when
the Passover Lamb would be sacrificed
When Jesus and the disciples
     had to appease their appetites
Jesus foretold of a guest room
where they would have their meal
Two disciples followed the instructions
     and found everything was ideal

Jesus told his disciples
     "My suffering will soon begin
I am about to pay the price
     for all of humanity's sin"
He took some bread and tore it
then also poured out some wine
Gave thanks to God and said
"Take some pieces of the Divine"

"But sitting here at this table
sitting amongst us as a friend
Is the one who will betray me
     the one who'll be condemned

"Kings and great men
     lord it over their people
They are known as friend
to those who see them as regal
But with you it will be different
you will not be the greatest
You will be known as a servant
and in that you'll be made just."
