God of the Living

Inspired by Matthew 22:24-33; Mark 12:18-27; Luke 20:27-40

Marriage is for people living in this world
But after death and then resurrection
We will neither marry or be given in marriage
But we will live forever in exaltation

What does it mean to be raised from the dead?
The physical being passes but the spirit lives on
Then our essence regenerates in glory
We were once flawed but reborn in perfection

Our lives can feel like we’re in a desert
A barren wilderness that makes us dry
Went from royalty to guarding flock
But this is for selfish pride to die

We can search for things to satisfy us
Money, career, or companionship
But we can end up disappointed
Like the key to happiness is encrypted

Think of our time on earth as borrowed
Worldly joy and love are just temporary
They maybe here today but gone tomorrow
God’s grace calls us out of our cemeteries

The joy of the Lord is our strength
Our lives aren’t meant for brief effect
As the Lord says aloud with each breath
I AM THE GOD OF THE LIVING,
     NOT THE GOD OF DEATH
